Dharwad: Election Officials Seize Nearly Rs 7 Lakh in Unaccounted Cash

Dharwad: As part of measures to prevent election-related irregularities ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, staff deployed at various checkpoints have confiscated unaccounted cash. These personnel are inspecting all vehicles passing through the 24 checkpoints established across the district.

According to Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu, from Thursday night to Friday morning, officials seized a total of Rs 6.89 lakh from three different checkpoints in the district, where the cash was being transported without proper documentation.

At the Kundagol cross checkpoint, officials intercepted an Ertiga car and discovered Rs 2.10 lakh being transported without proper documentation. The individual, identified as Mallikarjun Begur from Adargunchi village, failed to produce the necessary documents upon inquiry.

Meanwhile, at the Sangatikoppa checkpoint, officials intercepted an Innova car traveling from Karwar to Hubballi and found a passenger named Satyam SV carrying Rs 1.09 lakh without proper documentation. The cash was seized and deposited into the treasury.

Additionally, at a checkpoint near the University of Agricultural Sciences, election officers seized Rs 3.70 lakh from Mallikarjun Holladmalla, who was transporting the cash without documentation in a Bolera car from Athani to Dharwad.
